Hives and CBD: what to know ?

According to the figures, approximately 20% of the population develops a hives attack at some point in their lives. It can sometimes be a one-time, isolated episode and in rarer cases, chronic urticaria. Note that this affects between 0.2 and 2% of the population and appears and disappears regularly on the skin of people who suffer from it leaving them very little respite. CBD is a substance known for its soothing, anti-inflammatory and calming effects on the skin. This is why it is used today in the treatment of many conditions. But, we are looking here to know if CBD could effectively contribute to the treatment of urticaria? That's what we'll find out in this article.

What is hives?

Hives are considered an old disease, which is quite normal, since they have been known for a very long time and are quite easy to diagnose. However, despite this, researchers have not yet managed to fully understand it and it remains difficult to treat. Indeed, we are still trying to understand the causes of hives outbreaks, but also to identify an effective treatment appropriate to relieve people who suffer from them. This is why many people around the world still find it difficult to manage their various attacks and consequently to live comfortably with this condition. It is therefore always a good idea to consult dermatologists or allergists who are able to give good advice. However, it should be noted that these are not always sufficient to have complete satisfaction with the problem.

As for the manifestation of symptoms related to urticaria, we always find quite unpleasant skin eruptions that are generally accompanied by papules and itching. Note that these papules are thick, red patches reminiscent of nettle stings. Other symptoms include a slight fever, digestive problems and joint pain. More rarely, we also notice oedemas in people suffering from this disease.

Hives: what are the different causes?

There are still grey areas as to the real causes of hives. However, these seem to be of varied and very broad origins.

So we have the food. Hives can occur after eating chocolate, seafood, milk, eggs, red fruits, fish or nuts. Medication can also be a cause of a hives outbreak. For example, after taking certain antibiotics, aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, anaesthetics, codeine and others, the condition may occur. The environment can also have an impact. We are talking about insect bites, jewelry, mainly those containing nickel, certain cosmetic products and soaps or latex. Finally, we have mental health, mainly during periods of stress.

In the majority of cases, the trigger is not the real cause of the hives, but rather an element that favors their appearance. The real cause of the onset of hives is still difficult to identify. However, this does not prevent the various symptoms from being treated as quickly as possible in order to avoid the discomfort associated with them.

Is it possible to use CBD for the treatment of hives?

If you're lucky, all you need to do is take antihistamines and the hives will disappear quickly. In these cases, it only takes a few hours or a few days for the attack to subside. However, if this does not work, for example if the hives are on the face or spread over a large area, oral corticosteroids should be used.

What are the problems with corticosteroids?

The effectiveness of corticosteroids in the face of numerous allergies and/or skin problems is no longer in question. Hives are no exception and are treated very effectively by cortisone. Indeed, this molecule is perfect for stopping inflammation. It is in fact one of the steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The problem with this molecule is that it is far from being without side effects. Among these, we can easily mention water retention, weight gain, blood pressure problems, especially hypertension, depression, nervousness, insomnia and digestive problems.

Some undesirable effects have also been found when taking antihistamines. It could indeed cause weight gain, cardiac risk disorders or a feeling of drowsiness. This is why it is so important to find an effective alternative treatment without side effects for the treatment of urticaria. This would be a real hope for all those who suffer from this pathology.

CBD products for the treatment of hives

It is not really a secret anymore, the virtues of cannabidiol on the skin are numerous. It is then normal that it is used for the treatment of certain skin irritations and certain pains. On the market, you will find several CBD-derived products that can effectively treat the skin.

First, we have hemp oil to fight acne. Indeed, the CBD oil intervenes in the regulation of the rate of sebum and consequently, it allows to reduce the appearance of the buttons. We also have CBD-based sun products. These help moisturize the skin and offer protection against UV rays. We also have massage oils based on CBD that effectively moisturize the skin in depth by soothing skin irritations and reducing muscle tension. Finally, we have CBD-based anti-aging cream. These allow to moisturize the skin and to give back to this one of the cellular tonus.

Cannabidiol in general and CBD oil in particular has beneficial effects on the skin. Its effects are very similar to those desired in the relief of hives. All the people suffering from this condition can thus have a glimmer of hope. However, there are still some uncertainties, as there is still not enough research that has been done on the subject.

CBD and skin inflammation

CBD is such a virtuous substance that it can be used in the treatment of several diseases. In fact, claims that CBD is effective in treating hives and other skin conditions are based on the fact that it has anti-inflammatory properties. According to a 2007 study, when isolated CBD was applied to human skin, it was found to limit the overproduction of skin cells that underlie the rare disease psoriasis.

However, it is important to distinguish between diseases that last for long periods of time such as psoriasis and skin conditions. The former may present an inflammatory reaction caused by a pre-existing problem while the latter refer to strong reactions to an external stimulus as with hives.

This simply means that the effectiveness of CBD in the treatment of psoriasis does not mean that it is also effective in the treatment of urticaria.

What do we know about the treatment of hives with CBD?

The bad news for all sufferers of this condition is that there is currently no real evidence that CBD has a direct influence on hives. In fact, the scientific data on the subject is not yet sufficient to draw any conclusive conclusions. However, the horizon is not black. There is still some good news to come.

It is already known that cannabidiol has anti-inflammatory properties and these are already proven. There is no doubt about it. We also know that in topical use, that is to say directly on the skin or locally, it is able to moisturize it and to soothe certain irritations.

Today, it may be an exaggeration to say that CBD can treat hives. Nevertheless, it would be much more reasonable to consider its contribution in terms of comfort when used in direct application. In particular, it reduces the discomfort caused by itching and the burning sensation associated with hives. The other great advantage of cannabidiol is that it has no notable side effects. Moreover, it is easily applied and it penetrates also rather easily: what is really very practical in the event of irritation of the skin.

The entire website should be considered as information. We remind you that before consuming cannabidiol products you should consult your doctor to obtain his approval in your specific case.
